When Audi set out to build an electric SUV worthy of its premium badge, the result was the Q6 e-tron — a car built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture jointly developed with Porsche, the same underpinnings that carry the Porsche Macan EV. That shared DNA matters, because PPE is a ground-up EV platform rather than an adapted combustion car — and you feel it the moment you drive one.
The Q6 e-tron is available in two body styles: a traditional upright SUV with a generous 526-litre boot, and the slightly lower, more aerodynamic Sportback coupé version. Both house the same core technology: a 100kWh battery (94.9kWh usable) on the performance and quattro variants, and a smaller 83kWh pack on entry-level cars.
Range is where the Q6 makes a statement. The rear-wheel-drive performance variant is officially rated at up to 395 miles on the WLTP cycle — a figure that makes motorway anxiety genuinely a thing of the past. Even in the more powerful quattro configuration, real-world range remains impressive, helped by sophisticated brake energy regeneration and a heat pump fitted as standard.
Numbers on a spec sheet are one thing; living with an EV is another. The Q6 e-tron supports DC fast charging at up to 270kW in quattro trim — allowing a 10–80% top-up in as little as 21 minutes under optimal conditions. That's comparable to the fastest chargers available at UK motorway services, meaning a proper break at a BP Pulse or Gridserve hub is all you need between Bristol and London, or Bristol and Edinburgh for that matter.
The car also gains the ability to add route-based battery preconditioning, automatically warming or cooling the pack before you arrive at a rapid charger. It's the kind of thoughtful engineering detail that turns EV ownership from a compromise into a preference.
Step inside and the Q6's tech feels genuinely next-generation. A wide MMI panoramic display stretches across the dashboard, combining a 11.9-inch central touchscreen with a 14.5-inch driver display in a single piece of curved glass. The passenger gets their own 10.9-inch screen too — useful for navigation browsing or entertainment on longer runs.
Materials quality is what you'd expect at this price point: soft-touch surfaces throughout, optional sustainable fabrics for eco-conscious hirers, and a cabin that's noticeably quieter than petrol SUV equivalents at motorway speeds. The upright SUV body gives genuinely good rear headroom, which matters when three adults need to travel comfortably.
The Q6 e-tron achieved a full five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2024, with a child occupant protection score of 92% — the highest of any car tested that year. As standard, buyers get adaptive cruise control, emergency city braking, lane-keep assist and a 360-degree camera. The quattro variants can tow up to 2,400kg braked, making this practical even for those with a trailer or a boat.
UK prices start from just over £60,000 for the base rear-wheel-drive Sport, rising to around £70,000 for the quattro. The performance-focused SQ6 e-tron, with close to 490 horsepower and a 0–62mph sprint in under 4.5 seconds, starts closer to £87,000.
The Q6 e-tron represents where premium motoring is heading — long-range electric capability wrapped in a genuinely refined, beautifully engineered package. It's the kind of car our customers ask about regularly when considering their next trip across the UK.
